God Commanded Moses to Teach the Children of Israel His Ways
Adam taught his children the way of the Lord and it was passed down till Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. There was no law before Moses. How did Moses’ ancestors keep the way of the Lord? The Lord Jesus said He knew Abraham would teach his children and his household the way of the Lord (Genesis 18:19). Before the Law was given they just taught the children and their households the way of the Lord.
Why did God give them the law knowing they were not able to keep them? God’s way since Adam to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and for us, is to teach the ways of God to our children.
Three reasons God gave them the Law of Moses:
- The way of the Lord was lost when they went into Egypt and were in bondage for 400 years. As slaves, they could not practise the Blood Covenant and God’s way. Moreover they had forgotten the ways of the Lord and it was not passed down to the next generation.
- They were to keep the way of the Lord. If they themselves did not keep the way of the Lord they were not able to teach it to their children.
- They were to teach the way of the Lord to their children and grandchildren.
God’s way was for them to pass down the way of the Lord to raise up another generation after His ways.
